sometimes I motivate mleysf by taking "before cleaning" and "after cleaning" pictures. And sometimes I take "before cleaning" pictures thinking it will motivate me, and then I'm called away by the baby, the computer, the sewing, the sisters, the soccer, the read-to-me-mommy, the telephone... pretty much everything gets a priority over cleaning around here!

Dear Joel, please send photo of you cleaning in full latex body suit; we need some more amusement around the office here! If I really really like it, I may send you a lambswool duster as a thank-you. If you can rig it as a tail, you'd be the envy of your block!

instead of latex gloves - i generally do my cleaning in a full latex body suit. the neighbors are starting to look at me funny. am i doing something wrong?

ps: it also keeps the dust mites at bay. i think they're mostly afraid of it - but no matter how it works, as long as it works, it's fine by me.

Do you know about this Online Spring Database, where you can locate spring water by region that is regularly tested and in some cases, free?

Thanks for the great suggestion and information, Kelly.

If one has an in-sink disposal, it's definitely a great option for someone not wanting to compost. For someone who's weighing composting vs. disposal, I like to emphasize composting for a couple different reasons. If one is considering purchasing a new disposal, it would require manufacturing & procurement of materials and production, as well as contributing carbon from shipping and packaging - but that would go for purchasing a new composting bin, as well. If one already has a sink disposal, the electricity and processing is negligible and is comparable to composting at home. However, if the compost is well used and contributes to better food or joy production, the benefits outweigh the sink disposal method. Even better if it replaces the use of a synthetic fertilizer. I was going to say that the gratification from composting outweighs disposal use, too, but I well remember the sheer pleasure of flipping that switch and absolutely destroying all kinds of stuff. That is pretty fun.

Someone may argue this point specifically for Philadelphia as the City features a cute combined sewer overflow with frequent incidents of raw sewage flooding into residential basements. I don't know enough to say if this is relevant to our discussion here.

That all being said, using a sink garbage disposal instead of dumping food waste in the garbage/landfill is generally a superior option!

an in sink disposal might be your path of least resistance depending on your city's treatment of sewage. landfill recovery of bio-waste seems restricted to hit or miss methane recovery whereas sewage sludge can be reprocessed into fertilizer products.
