Well, as you may have guessed, I’m not a hippie from the ‘60s. Nor am I quite a neo-hippie as some of our youngsters define one. However, like in the spirit of the “proto-hippies” of yore, my interest here is in mindful living, respect for beauty & nature, conservation, peace, justice, kindness. Basically, I’m hoping for a massive shift in our collective paradigm toward being a whole lot SMARTER than we’re behaving. When you take away the silly, pop-culture megahype of free-love, greasy hair and strung out airheads, the hippie movement of the ‘60s gave us a hefty, sorely needed dose of social enlightenment. Some of us in the Green or Sustainable movement think we’re ready to take another leap forward. Instead of trying to look different from everyone else and protesting in the streets, we’re soccer moms and entrepreneurs engaging with our neighbors, using our purchasing power and this awesome tool called the Internet.
So, in case you’re worried; I’m not promoting communal living, New Age lingo, bongs, LSD or STDs. To be frank.
But I do like singing Kumbaya.
Signed,
Your Hippie
